FAQ
all you need to know about singing lessons
That depends on what you want to learn, where you’re starting from, and what your budget is. Just like with any other instrument, the rule is: practice makes perfect. The more you practice at home, the faster you’ll improve and the more you’ll get out of every singing lesson. What matters most for us as a school is keeping a steady rhythm in your lessons. We don’t believe in the occasional one-off lesson here and there. With us, you can choose weekly or every-other-week lessons. From our experience, a minimum of two months with lessons either weekly or every other week is the best foundation for real progress.
Whether you choose a private lesson or a group session: a trial lesson is always no-obligation. You don’t need to prepare anything (though you can if you like), and it’s definitely not an audition.
Private lesson
You’ll meet your teacher, talk about what you’d like to learn or try out, and sing something you enjoy (or pick a song together). You’ll get some tips and tools right away, so you get a clear idea of how our lessons work and whether it feels like the right fit for you.
Group lesson
In a group trial, you simply join the class as it normally runs. You’ll sing together with the group, explore harmony, rhythm, and expression, and immediately get a sense of the atmosphere and approach. Many people say afterwards: “I thought it would be scary, but it was actually just a lot of fun.”
After your trial, it’s up to you whether you want to continue. No obligations — just a chance to give it a try. Want to know more? We have a whole page about trial lessons and what to expect. Check it out here!
Yes! Singing can be learned, just like sports. Even if you’ve never trained or if you feel insecure, your voice is already there, you’ve been using it your whole life.
The only real obstacle is tone deafness, which is neurological and can’t be trained away. But here’s the thing: singing out of tune doesn’t automatically mean you’re tone deaf. Often, it’s simply that your muscles don’t yet know how to hit a certain pitch. So struggling to sing the right note does not immediately mean you are tone deaf and you’ll never learn to sing. Most people just need some focused practice. And that’s exactly what we’re here for!
No worries. Many of our students start out feeling wobbly and nervous (just like all of our teachers once did!). We adapt the lesson to your pace and build things step by step: technique, sound, songs — all without pressure.
With us, you can choose either. Almost all of our teachers can teach their lessons in both English and Dutch. Our group lessons are generally in Dutch, but on Wednesday evenings we offer special English-language groups for our international community in Amsterdam!
You’re not tied to a full year of singing lessons with us. Instead, you can decide every two-month block whether you’d like to continue or not. Want to stop? Just let us know before the next block begins, with a one-month notice period. Your subscription continues automatically unless you cancel on time.
Of course you can! In fact, we encourage recording your lessons, so you can keep working with your teacher’s tips at home. Just let your teacher know when you’d like to record the lesson, it’s always nice for them to know they are being recorded.
