Below you can see what singing lessons cost with us, and underneath we explain how it works. Singing lessons for students under 21 are exempt from VAT, which is why the rate for them is lower.

How it works

We follow the same school year as the primary schools in the North region. This adds up to 40 lesson weeks in total, from late August to early July. We have divided those 40 weeks into 5 lesson blocks of 8 weeks each. You sign up for at least one block and can then cancel per block, with a notice period of one month. You decide whether you want lessons every week or every other week. After your trial lesson, you can start at the next available moment that fits — you don’t have to wait for a new block.

Lesson blocks and payment moments

Per block we debit your monthly amount twice via direct debit. The autumn, Christmas, spring and May holidays are already factored into the price — you always pay the same monthly amount. That way you know exactly where you stand.

☀️Summer holiday = Break
During the summer holidays there are no regular lessons. In June and July nothing will be debited. We only send an invoice if you want to keep on singing and choose to schedule individual lessons with your teacher. Late August/early September the new school year starts again and your fixed lesson spot automatically continues.

✋ Cancellation
Want to stop your singing lessons? Please let us know yourself — otherwise your enrolment simply continues (even after the summer). You can cancel per lesson block, with a notice period of one month before the start of the next block. Please use our cancellation form.

Before you start your singing lessons, we ask you to read our terms and conditions . It’s only two pages and much of it you’ve already read above, but this way you’ll know exactly where you stand.

FAQ – Pricing

Yes, you can. You only pay for the lessons remaining in that block. You’ll receive your first invoice around your first lesson, after which you’ll join our standard debit round on the 23rd of the month.

We work with a fixed day and time, so rescheduling your lesson is not possible. But if you really can’t make it, there are three options:

Swap with your ‘bi-weekly buddy’. Do you have bi-weekly lessons? Then you can swap with the student who has your time slot in the other week. Let your teacher know at least two weeks in advance. They’ll give you each other’s contact details, you arrange it together and report back to the teacher.

Online lesson. You simply take your lesson online, on your own day and time.

Audio or video from your teacher. During your lesson time your teacher records practice material so you can work on it at home.

In addition to teaching, our teachers are also active as musicians, songwriters or artists. Occasionally a lesson may have to be rescheduled. If that happens, we’ll arrange a substitute teacher whenever possible. If that’s not possible, your own teacher will make up the lesson at a time you agree on together. A refund of lesson fees does not apply in these cases, because you still receive your lesson.

Yes, you can switch per new lesson block. Let your teacher or us know at least one month before the start of the new block via zangles@theamsterdamvocalcompany.nl, and we’ll look together at what fits in the schedule.

We follow the school holidays for the North region, as set by the Dutch government. That means we don’t teach during the autumn, Christmas, spring (krokus), May and summer holidays. On public holidays such as Good Friday, Easter Monday, Liberation Day, Ascension Day and Whit Monday lessons do go ahead. You can find all exact dates in our terms and conditions.

This is due to VAT. For students under 21, music lessons are exempt from VAT; for students aged 21 and over, 21% VAT applies. You’ll see that difference reflected in our rates.

Yes. If you choose annual payment, you pay upfront for the entire school year and receive a 5% discount on the total amount. Joining later in the school year? You can still choose annual payment, up to and including the second lesson block.

Please note: with annual payment, no refund is possible if you cancel mid-term.

Cancellation is done per lesson block, with a notice period of one month. For example: if the new block starts on 25 March, you need to cancel by 25 February at the latest.

Cancellation can only be done via the cancellation form on our website. You can find it here. You can’t cancel verbally with your teacher — our teachers focus on lessons, not administration. During the notice period your payment simply continues.
