Terms and conditions

Book a lesson

General

  • These terms and conditions apply to all lessons and further activities of The Amsterdam Vocal Company.
  • By registering, the student (or the parent/guardian if the student is under 18) agrees to these terms and conditions.
  • A school year starts around September 1st and ends around July 1st (dates may vary depending on the school holidays determined by the Dutch government for region North).
  • Tuition fees are paid monthly (or yearly) via automatic direct debit.

Planning (check our Calendar for exact dates)

  • A trial lesson is a non-binding, single lesson. You can book it via our online booking system. Need to cancel or reschedule? Do so at least 72 hours before the start of the lesson by email.
  • Would you like to continue with regular singing lessons after your trial lesson? You can do so on a fixed day and time, either weekly or every other week.
  • We work with fixed lesson blocks throughout the school year.
  • For all lessons, the minimum enrollment period is one full lesson block. If you join in the middle of a block, you participate in the remaining lessons of that block and in the following block as well.
  • During official school holidays no lessons are given. On certain public holidays, lessons will still take place.

Payment Options

  • We only work with automatic direct debit. Tuition fees are collected around the 25th of each month from your account. You will always receive an invoice before the debit takes place.
  • You pay a set amount per month, based on the type of lessons and frequency.
  • The monthly fee is based on 40 lessons per school year, spread over 10 terms. This means the number of lessons per month may vary, but the monthly fee remains the same.
  • You pay in advance. If you have lessons planned in March, that amount will be direct debited around the 25th of April
  • If you join later in the year and start (just) after the 25th of the month, your first invoice will be issued around your first lesson. This invoice will cover the remaining lessons of that month. After that, you will be included in the regular payment rounds on the 25th of each month.
  • Prefer to pay for the full year at once? You’ll receive a 5% discount on the total fee. You can opt for this payment method until halfway through the school year.

Missed or late Payments

  • We make one direct debit attempt. If we can’t collect the lesson fee, we’ll send you a reminder with a payment link so you can transfer the amount yourself. We’ll always let you know what’s outstanding and how to pay.
  • If payment still doesn’t come through, we can temporarily suspend your access to lessons. We only do this after we’ve reminded you a few times and clearly announced it.
  • During a suspension, your lessons stay scheduled and payment still continues. So you also pay for the period you can’t take part.
  • Once the outstanding amount is paid, you can join the lessons again.
  • Still don’t pay after our final reminder? Then we’ll hand the payment over to a debt collection agency. Any collection costs will be added to your outstanding payment.

Cancellation

  • You can cancel per lesson block, with a one-month notice period. Example: if the new block starts on March 25th, cancel before February 25th.
  • Cancellation must be done via the cancellation form on our website. You cannot cancel by telling your teacher in person.
  • If you do not cancel on time, your registration is automatically extended into the next block.
  • Within the set notice period, payment is always required.
  • Annual payments are non-refundable in case of early termination.

Lessons during Summer Break

  • During the summer holidays, the monthly direct debit is paused. Students who want to continue singing lessons during the summer can book single lessons with their teacher, if this teacher is available. These lessons can be booked without being tied to a set frequency, day, or time. The lessons are invoiced in one go and collected by automatic direct debit.

Absence and Rescheduling Lessons

  • Unable to attend your lesson? Inform your teacher.
  • Missed lessons due to student absence cannot be rescheduled or refunded. Tuition fees remain due.
  • Swapping a lesson with another student is possible if the schedule allows it. Such a request must be made to the teacher at least two weeks in advance.
  • Can’t make it? Here are a few things that are possible:
    • You do the lesson online, on the same day and time.
    • Your teacher sends you your exercises so you can keep practicing at home
    • You send a video and your teacher gives you feedback on it.
  • Please note: your teacher does this during the scheduled lesson time. If you send a video after the lesson, we unfortunately can’t do anything with it.
  • All of this applies to private and duo lessons only. For choirs and group lessons, catching up, swapping, or joining online isn’t possible.

Teacher absence and Replacement

  • Our teachers, in addition to their teaching practice, lead dynamic professional lives as musicians, songwriters, and/or performing artists. It may occasionally happen that a course day needs to be rescheduled during the year.
  • If the teacher is unavailable, The Amsterdam Vocal Company is entitled to appoint a substitute teacher.
  • If no substitute can be found, your teacher will ensure the lesson is rescheduled at another agreed time.
  • Tuition fees will not be refunded.

Force Majeure

  • If a lesson (individual or group) cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. extreme weather), the teacher will offer an online alternative, such as a video call or a pre-recorded lesson
  • In the case of long-term force majeure (such as a pandemic or prolonged closure of the location), an adjusted lesson policy may apply. In that case, you will be informed in time about the alternatives we offer.

Privacy and Data Protection

  • We process personal data exclusively for administrative purposes, such as registration, invoicing, and communication with students.
  • Personal data will not be shared with third parties without consent, unless required by law.
  • Students can access, modify, or delete their personal data at any time by logging into their account on our bookingwebsite.

Revisions

  • The Amsterdam Vocal Company reserves the right to adjust our terms and tuition fees once per year. Usually this happens at the start of a new school year in September, in line with inflation correction. Students will be notified in advance.
