Are you new in Amsterdam?
Or have you been here for a while but still haven’t found a place to express your creativity and meet like-minded people?
Our English-language choirs are specially created for internationals and expats who love to sing and prefer lessons in English. No experience is needed. We know that as an international it can take some time to find your place in a new city. These choirs are here to make that easier: a welcoming, creative group where you can meet people, be yourself, and at the same time work towards something beautiful together.
When you sing together with others, something magical happens. To be honest, we can’t quite explain why. Luckily, plenty of scientific research has. And it shows that singing together lowers stress levels, boosts your mood, and makes you feel more connected to the people around you.
That’s because your heartbeat, breathing, and even your brainwaves sync up with the group. Your voice, body, and mind literally tune in to those around you — and that’s where that sense of connection comes from.
What to expect
In our English-language choirs, you can leave the hustle of the city behind for a while. Together with a welcoming group of people from all over the world, you’ll simply enjoy singing. No pressure, just for fun. All levels are welcome.
At the start of the season, each rehearsal kicks off with a new song. Together with your teacher and the group, you work on it step by step. At the end of the session, we make a short recording of the progress you’ve made.
Before you even realize it, you’ll have created something that didn’t exist at the start of the lesson — and it’s a wonderful feeling to go home with.
As the year goes on, we may (if you’d like) pick a few favorite songs to polish up and work towards a performance at the end of the season.
No homework, no hassle with printing lyrics or preparing parts. The teacher arranges the music and has the lyrics ready for you. All you need to do is sing along and enjoy. And if you have a fun idea for a song? Bring it to the group, we love that!

How we work (and why)
Our English-language choirs are set up as ongoing groups where you share a musical year together.
You meet weekly or every other week at a fixed time, gradually build up a repertoire, and grow closer as a group.
No experience is needed — the most important thing is that you have fun singing with others.
You can join at any point in the year. And if you’re away for a while or things get busy, that’s no problem: you can always cancel per two-month block. But above all, give yourself (and your group) the time to truly build something together.
Singing Choir Essentials
Locations
All choirs rehearse at our main location at Surinameplein in Amsterdam. Easily accessible by public transport, bike, and car.
Group Size
Our choirs have space for a maximum of 20 people. When starting a new choir, the group may be a bit smaller at first.
Duration
The choir lessons are 75 minutes long
Language
These choirs are taught in English by a native speaker, our lovely teacher Sofia!
